Wholistic Bodywork 1000 Hour Certification Program
Nine Months-Day September-June
This program is for students who wish to expand their knowledge and skills beyond a solid foundation in therapeutic massage.
This is for the person who is comfortable with the academic demands of courses such as anatomy and physiology and who has a background in personal growth work and experience with group dynamics. The wholistic program provides a strong foundation in Swedish and therapeutic massage, as well as exposure to several other bodywork techniques such as polarity therapy, aromatherapy, Ortho-Bionomy¨, Shiatsu and/or medical massage.
The 1000 hour program is for students who want a program that provides the necessary time for integrating extensive therapeutic knowledge with practice and experience. Students in this program are advised not to work. This program provides the student with the ability to offer a wide range of treatment modalities and to introduce new techniques into the massage work environment.
Students will develop the confidence to apply for positions in a wide variety of professional environments, such as health spas and chiropractic offices. Through this program the Academy maintains a commitment to providing a course of study with the greatest possible depth, which upholds the highest standard in the massage profession.
This program is for very self-directed people who want a solid foundation in massage therapy in the shortest possible time. This is a thorough training in Swedish and therapeutic massage. This program is designed to provide consolidated, focused instruction in massage, anatomy and physiology, communication skills, clinical exposure, professional development, and group process.
Students whose professional aim is to become acupuncturists, Rolfers¨, chiropractors or naturopaths many times start with this program to gain touch skills, a foundation in anatomy, and the communication skills necessary to deal effectively with clients. The 700 hour program is divided into two semesters. The first semester is four and a half months long. During this time students will receive the basic massage techniques and anatomy and physiology for the course. For the last six weeks of the program, the student attends class in the evening from 6-9 pm along with clinic on the weekend.
This evening semester is fundamental in the curriculum as the transition from student to therapist. This transition enables the student to network or research requirements to establish a private practice. The class material presented in the evenings supports the development of job hunting and self-promotion skills.
The successful student of this program can handle a demanding, fast-paced schedule and has a high saturation level for new information and techniques. Students in this program are advised not to work in the first semester of the program.
