Healing Touch Therapeutic Massage School (HTTMS) was founded in 1999 and is licensed by the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office of the State of Minnesota. Healing Touch Therapeutic Massage School is a private, professional school devoted to the study of massage and related health education.
HTTMS has a commitment to holistic education, and the training is designed to integrate body, mind, heart, and spirit. A key feature of our educational process is that students are asked to look at the emotional, spiritual, and intellectual aspects of massage and incorporate those aspects with their own beliefs, emotions, and behaviors during the course of their exploration of the body and the techniques of massage.
Central to our philosophy is the belief that touch is a powerful form of communication with the potential for facilitating and encouraging healing. Our extensive and detailed study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and massage techniques is augmented by time for students to share their experiences as both givers and receivers of touch. This dialogue helps students clarify their own beliefs about touching and encourages the development of the skill of intuition, or the "inner healer."
The core curriculum will provide a program that will give the student a thorough working knowledge of the structure and function of the human body as it related to massage. The teaching approach in the massage classes blends many different techniques of massage in the belief that no one technique is suitable for all clients and all situations and that the student will be a more effective massage therapist with a range of techniques to draw upon. The emphasis is on teaching each student how to give an excellent massage so they can obtain employment in any setting. The core program at Healing Touch prepares our students with a solid foundation of massage skills.
The Internship portion of the program offers students a "real life" environment in which to build professional competence and self-confidence in a variety of settings such as a massage center, hospital, health club, nursing home, or hospice.
The elective curriculum offers students a chance to explore alternative health care chance to explore alternative health care choices and other massage techniques, as well also become trained in services offered at spas. The student can choose to take electives over and above the 500 core program from HTTMS or from other schools and educational centers. This will not only enhance their skills as a massage therapist, but also increase their employability.
